Overview
Travel Baseball offers a more competitive level of play than recreational baseball. Families should be aware of the following important details before deciding to participate:
- Increased Commitment & Cost: Travel baseball involves additional expenses such as tournament fees, equipment, hotels, and travel costs.
- Playing Time Not Guaranteed: Coaches determine lineups based on team needs and competition level.
- Ability-Based Placement: Players must attend tryouts and will be placed on a team according to skill level.
- Dedication Required: Participation in all tournaments and practices is expected.
Tryout Format
CYBSA has researched and observed other programs to create a tryout process that best fits our community. While no selection process is perfect, we continuously welcome feedback and improvement suggestions.
Key Details:
- Coaches are appointed by the Baseball Director prior to tryouts, based on knowledge and commitment.
- Due to high demand for gym space in the spring, not all levels may receive the same amount of tryout days.
- Our goal is to hold tryouts outdoors on a baseball field, but weather may require indoor sessions.
- Schedule changes may occur with short notice due to gym or field availability.
Player Guidelines:
- Wear neutral clothing (no Travel team logos or uniforms).
- Parents are not allowed to watch tryouts.
- Tryouts include a series of skill drills to evaluate players in:
- Hitting
- Infield
- Outfield
- Situational fielding
- Running speed
Pitchers and catchers will have an opportunity to demonstrate positional skills.
Metrics will be recorded for all players and shared with coaches and the Baseball Director.
Parents may request their child’s metrics and an average of all participants’ results if their child does not make a team.
Team Selection
After tryouts, judges’ evaluations are submitted to the Baseball Director.
Results are typically announced within 48 hours.
12U & Up
